“Home Safe Every Day”: Safety as a Way of Life at KONE

Featuring Loay Dajani KONE Middle East, Türkiye & Africa Managing Director

Managing Director for KONE Middle East, Türkiye

Every morning across the KONE Middle East, Türkiye & Africa region, thousands of people step onto job sites, into shafts, onto rooftops, or behind service vans, wearing the KONE name, and a silent promise. A promise that they’ll not only deliver excellence in elevators and escalators, but also that they’ll go home safely, every single day.

At KONE, safety is not a poster on a wall or a checkbox on a list. It’s a mindset. It’s culture. It’s responsibility. And it starts with leadership.

“Safety is not just about procedures, it’s about people,” says Loay Dajani, Managing Director for KONE Middle East, Türkiye & Africa. “We never forget that behind every policy or process is someone’s life. A parent, a son, a daughter. That’s what makes safety non-negotiable for us.”

Leading the Way: Safety in KONE DNA

KONE has long been known for its engineering excellence, but we are also redefining what it means to be safe in one of the most dynamic, fast-moving, and diverse regions in the world Middle East, Türkiye & Africa.

From Dubai’s skyline to Nairobi’s neighborhoods, from modernization projects in Türkiye to service sites in South Africa, our teams operate in complex environments. And yet, one thing remains constant: our safety-first approach.

“We’re not just enforcing rules, we’re building a mindset,” says Loay. “Our goal is to make safety so embedded that it becomes automatic. Something you live, breathe, and lead with.”

This commitment is not theoretical. It shows up every day in the choices our people make, the conversations they have, and the courage they show, whether it’s stopping a task that doesn’t feel right, coaching a colleague, or suggesting a new method to improve safety.

How We Bring Safety to Life Across RISE

Our strategy “RISE” is all about building a stronger, smarter, and more sustainable business. But none of that matters without safety as the foundation.

From design to installation to handover, safety is our constant. We assess risks early, our engineers follow tested methods, and our site leaders ensure that no step is skipped, even under pressure. In every project, we protect not only our people but also the public and our partners.

This Safety Week, we launch a major milestone: the Digital Safety & Method Passport. Replacing physical cards with a smart, transparent solution. It gives teams and leaders real-time visibility into safety trainings and competencies, making it easier to stay compliant, close gaps, and keep safety front and center every day.

Our technicians are the face of KONE in cities and remote areas alike. They often work alone, in unpredictable environments, navigating tight timelines and customer expectations. And yet, they deliver with precision, and protection. Through continuous training, method reviews, and real-time coaching, we ensure they are never alone in their commitment to safety.

Ultimately, safety is a human story. It’s about leaders who walk the talk. Teams who look out for each other. Employees who speak up, even when it’s uncomfortable. We’re proud to see that in KMTA, people are no longer waiting to be told what to do, they’re leading safety from the ground up. And that’s the culture we’re building: one of ownership, trust, and care.

Safety Week 2025: A Strong Message, Inside and Out

This year’s Safety Week runs under the theme “Home Safe Every Day”, a simple yet powerful reminder that what we do at work has real meaning at home.

And the message we’re sending is clear:

Safety is not a task. It’s who we are.
